Dean, The Schuylkill Deanery
Dear Fr. Shaw:
With the assistance of many, but especially with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I have prepared the following application for the Rev. Canon Thomas Wilson Stearly Logan, Sr. D.D. to be listed in A Great Cloud of Witnesses, the collection of “saints” published by the Episcopal Church. I have been ably and honorably assisted in this journey by the Rev. Jeff Moretzsohn, Deacon at St. Peter’s Church in Pennsylvania. I am seeking your support and the support of the membership of the Schuylkill Deanery to approve of this application for Fr. Logan, who as you know served as Dean of the Schuylkill Deanery from 1972-1974.
At the time of his death in 2012, Fr. Logan, Sr. was a centenarian whose family had been called to the Episcopal priesthood through three unbroken generations of service to God, beginning with the Rev. John R. Logan, Sr., father of the nominee, the Rev. John R. Logan, Jr, the nominee’s elder brother, and the Rev. Thomas Logan, Jr. son of the nominee.
The application details the courageous and “prophetic ministry” of Fr. Logan Sr. as required in A Great Cloud of Witnesses. It outlines his ministry to the Episcopal church, the communities, and numerous organizations, many unchurched, that he belonged to as a member, a leader, a volunteer, and a traveler to fulfill the commandment of the Lord Jesus to go out into world and spread the Good News of the Gospel.
As the signatory of this document, I acknowledge a personal relationship to Fr. Logan. I was baptized and raised in Christian fellowship at Calvary St. Augustine Episcopal Church under Fr. Logan, who was pastor of Calvary for 38 years. Attached are letters of support from Calvary St. Augustine members who knew Fr. Logan. I am also a member of the Logan family through marriage.
These personal and family connections position me to have a unique perspective on this man of God.
His life is a powerful witness to answering God’s call to ministry and is therefore a name to be considered and ultimately listed as one of the “saints” in A Great Cloud of Witnesses of the Episcopal Church.
Sincerely,
C. James Trotman, Ed.D.
